I can’t promise that I’ll be posting all the time, because I have even less free time than I did when I last posted to this blog (which was waaay back in 2008!) but I do have some posts planned already and they’ll be similar to my old posts; reviews, lists, etc.

Anyway, to sum up this post and spare you the slightly boring details- I’m back.

I went to a screening of Bolt yesterday and I have to say that overall, I was very impressed with the film.

The basic premise is centered around a dog named Bolt, who is the star of a hit television show. He is separated from his owner Penny by accident and in the majority of the film Bolt is traveling across the country trying to get back to her.

The characters are what make this film great. Besides Bolt, the film also starred a hamster named Rhino and a cat named Mittens. Rhino is a super fan of Bolt, and wants to go on big adventures like Bolt does in his TV show. Mittens is a stray cat, who once had a family and doesn’t know who Bolt is, even though he thinks she took him away from Penny. There are three pigeons who give a nice comedy touch to the film. They keep trying to figure out where they’ve seen Bolt before, in times when it’s especially obvious (a bus with Bolt’s picture on it is behind him, and at one point they’re even sitting on a huge poster of him).

I saw this in 3-D and if you have the choice of seeing it in 3-D, I would definitely recommend you spend a few extra dollars because it really enhances the experience of the movie. Also, the 3-D effects weren’t overdone which was something I liked. It’s hard to explain but instead of having things ‘pop out’ at you, it was more like the entire film just looked extremely realistic.

Bolt is in theatres now, be sure to go see it!

Amazing, amazing band. I absolutely love their album entitled The Con, and a few of my favorite songs are The Con, Knife Going In, and Back In Your Head. They also have a feature-length DVD showing the process of making their album, and it’s hilarious.

Veronica Mars
Although the show was cancelled last year, I was still watching season 2 when that happened, and after recently getting back into it I’ve remembered how fantastic this show is. It’s about a teen detective (played by Kristen Bell), but it really is so much more than that.

It’s my first time voting in a presidential election, so it was pretty exciting for me.
If you live on the west coast you still have a couple hours until the booths close, so go vote and let your voice be heard!

The band consists of Shawnee Smith (from the Saw films, etc.) and Missi Pyle (from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.) who created this great album entitled It’s OK To Be Happy.

It’s sort of an unclassifiable genre of music… you could say it’s country, but it’s also rock, or as they call it; ‘desert rock’. That seems to fit.

Some of these songs remind me of Jenny Lewis’ new album, and that’s definitely a good thing. I don’t usually like country-esque music too much, but there’s something different about this album and I just love it.

A few of my favorite songs are:

Spankin’ - Such a cool beat, this song makes me smile.

Flower In My Hair - Very pretty.

Too Damn Tired - This song is so true, and I love the line “I’m too tired to be inspired”. 

I Wish You Were Dead - So funny, the lyrics are really clever. It makes me laugh.

They also made video blogs while they were in the process of recording the album, and they’re hilarious.
I especially love the first video blog, where they’re talking to the turtle.

Lost In Austen is a show about Amanda Price (played by Jemima Rooper from Hex), who is a big Jane Austen fan in the present day. She meets the Pride and Prejudice character of Elizabeth Bennet (played by Gemma Arterton) in her bathroom, and she shows Amanda a secret doorway hidden in the wall that is connected to Elizabeth’s world. Amanda is trapped inside the story of Pride and Prejudice, and struggles to make sure that the events of the book happen as they are supposed to, but it doesn’t work out quite as she planned.

I am a huge fan of ‘period dramas’ and this is really one of my favorites now. The last episode aired a few days ago, and sadly this was only a four part mini-series. I won’t really go into the details of the show, because I don’t want to spoil it for you all. You should watch it if you are at all curious!

I thought the ending was perfect, and I think a lot of people would enjoy this show. It’s a refreshing mix of history and present times that makes you wish you could find your own door to another world.

There’s many great guest contributions – including Elvis Costello, Zooey Deschanel, M. Ward, A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin, Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, and of course Johnathan Rice, who co-wrote several songs.

All of the tracks are fantastic, and one of my favorite things about Jenny Lewis is that all of her songs are like little stories.

Some of my favorite songs are;

The Next Messiah - This is like three songs in one, and it switches back and forth. I think it’s very catchy and different.

Acid Tongue - The title track is one of those little stories, and it’s so imaginative.

Carpetbaggers - Another catchy song, for some reason this song really says “Fleetwood Mac” to me.

Jack Killed Mom - This song is weirdly fun, and it makes me want to dance (if I could dance).

So go buy her new album, because it’s amazing. And I’ll leave you with this picture, which includes two of my favorite people ever… Jenny Lewis and Zooey Deschanel.

Aside from the fact that I really need a case (when are the 2G cases coming out?!) I think it’s a great device.
I love the Apps, and here’s some of my favorites:

iGotchi
It’s a cute App, where you take care of this little furry thing with no eyes. Mine is named Ned, and apparantly he is an alcoholic.

Tap Tap Revenge
This game is extremely addicting… it’s like Guitar Hero but with tapping. My favorite song to play is Tap Tap Tap on Hard. Last night I was really close to getting a high score on that song.

CannonGame
This game is fun if you feel like destroying things.

The lower section of the theatre was a little less than half filled, which was great because we got seats in the sixth row. The show was so awesome, and it was cool to see it live because it’s much more personal. Kevin and Alex interacted with the crowd a lot, and often got easily distracted… meaning the actual show didn’t start right away. They would start talking about something then say “Okay, we need to start the show!!” then they would just get sidetracked again.

The show was very funny, and a few of this weeks stories included “15 Pictures That Look Photoshopped, But Aren’t”, something about Jerry Seinfeld agreeing to star in commercials for Microsoft, and an 85 year old woman pulling a gun on a 17 year old guy, and demanding that he call 911 on himself. 

Here’s a video of Kevin and Alex discussing the Seinfeld/Microsoft story… and someone suggests that Kevin be the next Microsoft spokesperson, when he replies “I wouldn’t do it.”

They also threw a bunch of shirts into the crowd but sadly, only two Diggnation shirts. The rest were nvision 08 shirts since the live Diggnation show was a part of the convention. I caught one, although it’s a size XL so I won’t be wearing it except maybe to sleep in. I also got a few stickers they were handing out.

I can’t wait to see the show this weekend and see what they kept/edited out. They shot lots of video of the crowd, I wonder how much will be in the actual show.
