The first album from Smith & Pyle was released in July, but I have only just recently discovered it’s amazing-ness.
The band consists of Shawnee Smith (from the Saw films, etc.) and Missi Pyle (from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.) who created this great album entitled It’s OK To Be Happy.
It’s sort of an unclassifiable genre of music… you could say it’s country, but it’s also rock, or as they call it; ‘desert rock’. That seems to fit.
Some of these songs remind me of Jenny Lewis’ new album, and that’s definitely a good thing. I don’t usually like country-esque music too much, but there’s something different about this album and I just love it.
A few of my favorite songs are:
Spankin’ - Such a cool beat, this song makes me smile.
Flower In My Hair - Very pretty.
Too Damn Tired - This song is so true, and I love the line “I’m too tired to be inspired”.
I Wish You Were Dead - So funny, the lyrics are really clever. It makes me laugh.
They also made video blogs while they were in the process of recording the album, and they’re hilarious.
I especially love the first video blog, where they’re talking to the turtle.
Here’s a video where Shawnee and Missi talk to fans about the beginnings of Smith & Pyle, and their album. It’s great.
And here is where you can buy their album on iTunes. You can also listen to a few songs on their MySpace page.
